Report Card

Back in November I blogged a list of things I was going to do with my newly free non-studying time. Let’s re-visit my lofty goals, shall we?
1) Volunteer to do something at church- B+! I did some P.R. :)
2) Learn all the words to T.I.’s rap in “Live your life” Mm, I give myself a C+ on this one. I do not know it well enough to karaoke it. I think it’s time to accept that lyrics are not my strong point, unless of course we’re talking NKOTB or musicals.
3) Re-design the blog – I learned to embed videos, does that count?
4) Learn how to use my digital camera better- Rachel taught me that almost everything looks like crap with the flash. I’ve been taking that to heart but after my Panama trip I am painfully aware of how amateur my picture taking is.
5) Continue to indulge my NKOTB fanaticism – A+ ! We’re seeing them again this summer.
6) Read a book for fun – I’ve read so MANY! I am the valedictorian of this task.
7) Finish watching Season 3 of Entourage – A+ I watched Season 4 too.
8) Paint stuff around the house – B + OH, if only you knew how much stuff I’ve painted/will paint.
9) Learn new slang. Flunking out.
10) Exercise all my MA comp exam fat off. – I ran a ½ marathon with mixed results. Must be my jar of peanut butter a week habit. B+ for the effort, 140 minutes of running is still a lot of running.
Actually, for the most part I did really well, right? Some of those things actually became good habits, like reading and not using the flash on my camera. I think I’m going to make a new list because I love lists! Suggestions?

Free time

Now that I’m done with my MA I have all sorts of time on my hands. It’s kind of overwhelming. I realize I’ve haven’t had free time in a long while. Before I had the M.A. I had two part time jobs. I might have some kind of over scheduling compulsion.

When Nutella arrives in January I know that she will take up some of my free time, but until then I go to Locombia in Dec. I need to keep myself busy, so I’ve made a list… feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.

1) Volunteer to do something at church
2) Learn all the words to T.I.’s rap in “Live your life” ( I know, I know, a very lofty goal)
3) Re-design the blog
4) Learn how to use my digital camera better
5) Continue to indulge my NKOTB fanaticism
6) Read a book for fun
7) Finish watching Season 3 of Entourage
8) Paint stuff around the house
9) Learn new slang. I just added “That’s so ninja to my vocab”. Shauntay has already said that I am to stop using said phrase.
10) Excercise all my MA comp exam fat off. (This should take a short 10 months or so). :)

So many things to be THANKFUL for!

1) I finished my tests! Even if I didn’t pass it feels good to be done.
2) Tonight was hot dog night on Top Chef. I think we all know I love hot dogs!

3) Arnold brought me macaroons from Ginger Elizabeth to celebrate. Yummmmm

4) Central heat and air – Say no more.

5) I got a new camera that is much smaller and takes great pictures. I took the tulip pic above!

Grateful List

1) Being able to go to an awesome Colorectal Cancer conference today! Normally I wouldn’t be please about getting up at 6:30 am to work a 12 hour day on Saturday, but today was SO AWESOME. I got to attend a panel of some of the top gastronenterology surgeons and oncologist from UCLA. Now I know what a colonoscopy looks like, a laparoscopic surgery and a liver re-section looks like. In case you ever decide to watch one of these, I’m just warning you… surgery is a little bit violent.

2) One of the CRC survivors today was SO COOL! She was so chic, like Coco Chanel. I would never have guessed that she was a five-year survivor of STAGE 4 colorectal cancer (fyi, stage four cancer is not good)

3) Another survivor was totally Samantha from Sex in the City. Loves it! I can totally have imagined her going ballistic on a wig guy just like Samantha did.

4) The weather on the return flight from LA was sooooooooo beautiful… the plane landed just as the sun was dipping down, saturating the whole valley with color. Plus the sky had that crystalline effect that you only get right after a rainstorm followed by sun.

5) I don’t have colorectal cancer. Hanging out with cancer survivors gives you perspective quick.
