List Love Book Club: Existential Car Angst

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above.

Today’s Topic: List your favorite car models

Our car broke big-time last week which has been creating havoc for our commuting schedule. 2 working adults + 1 child in daycare-1 car equals insane commuting schedule. In-sane.  After waiting a week to get a diagnosis on our car our mechanic called us and started the conversation with “I’m so sorry”.

The repairs are more than car is worthy. Ruh-roh.

The upside is that I’ve been thinking quite a bit about car models. Shall I take you on a listography of my car-buying process? Yes? Vamos!

  1. Subaru Forrester: Love, but the All-Wheel Drive burns unecessary fuel here in non-snowy California.
  2. Mini-Cooper: Cute but impractical for people with a kid. This is totally the car I’m buying after Elian is grown. I’m serious!
  3. Volvos: Love them, but too expensive. We are civil servants after all.

Which brings us to our winning car: A used Prius. Great gas mileage, roomy inside, great trunk space, safe and reliable. Incidentally one of my closest friends is a hybrid/clean-energy car expert. She drives a Prius, it was an easy choice.

So Team internet what do you think? Anybody out there have a Prius and want to share their feedback? Other favorite car models? Car-shopping advice to share? Buying a car is a huge expense so I’m happy to hear any and all feedback!

Danielle’s got the link today so head on over there or leave your advice in the comments.

    • The Prius’ are weirdly big inside and they can haul a lot of stuff! We brought our queen size mattress home in our friends Prius.

  1. Ohhh I am sorry about your car :( We have been car shopping around since January. Yes January. We are serious shoppers :) Maybe to intense. We have driven: Toyota – Prius, Camry Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid; Honda – Civic Hybrid, CR-V, Insight; Volkswagon – Jetti TDI diesel; Hyundai – Sonata, Santa Fe; Mitsubishi – Outlander; Kia – Sportage, Optima & Sorento. Phew ! That’s a lot of cars & SUV’s. As you can tell we had 2 camps here – 1 car & 1 suv. We are hoping my SUV holds out until December and we are going to buy the Kia Sorento. Cars that we considered – Kia Soul (love the hamster commercial), Hyundai Sonata, VW Jetti. I say go for the Prius !!

PS. Someday I hope I am driving a mini cooper too
