List Love Book Club-Future Vacations

Each Week Elleinadspir, A Place to Share and I will be working our way through theĀ Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above.

Today’s topic: List places you’d like to visit

Mulling over places I’d like to visit could be one of my favorite activities e-ver. I love traveling so much that I even started takingĀ Imaginary Vacations since we’re currently home-bound by the responsibilities of a little one. Don’t feel sorry for me though, I’ve been really fortunate to have traveled a lot already and as you’ll soon see I have big plans for the future.

  1. Philippines-My Dad is Filipino. I really want to go back with home one day and see all the places where he grew up. I went to Panama to visit my Grandmother’s childhood home two years ago and it was an amazing experience.
  2. Marrakesh-Moorish architecture, the confluence of cultures, the colors, the couscous! I even know exactly where I want to stay!

  3. Paris-The city of Amelie. I have to go and eat many, many, many croissants. It’s even on my Mighty List.
  4. Spain: Barcelona & La Alhambra-A good friend of mine studied abroad there when I was Senior in High School. He would spend endless hours describing how wonderful it was via this new technology called “e-mail” I’ve been enthralled with the idea of visiting Spain ever since. The movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona only furthered his cause.

  5. Italy-Food. Pizza. Italians. Assisi. Of course I have to go.
  6. Sweden-Uh, Swedish design? Marimekko? IKEA. Duh!
  7. Machu Picchu-If you have an M.A. in Spanish you are almost obligated to visit. We’ll make it one day!
  8. Oaxaca, Mexico-Food. Art. Fooooood.
  9. Met in NY-Did you read that book “The mixed up files of Ms. Basil E. Frankweilier” about the kids who runaway and live in the museum. Well I did! And that’s why I have to go to the Met.
  10. India-The Holi Festival and Taj Mahal. Have you heard of Holi? They throw colored dye all over everyone? Yay!

I’ve shown great restraint and cut myself off at ten places. Can’t wait to hear where you’d like to visit!

  1. I liked your list, it’s very diverse.
I personally feel mine is a little simple after reading everyone else’s.
I may want to add the Taj one to my list, DYE!!??? OMG I can imagine walking into my office after THAT vacation !
Also thought it was pretty neat that you went to Panama, that’s where I am from.

    • I know! I love coming back to the office and bragging about a trip. That’s part of the fun! At my office we love to travel and have a big map. We each have different color pins that we use to mark the map. Everyone loves to come back after a trip and dramatically put a new pin in the map. :) Panama was beautiful and it was really special for me to get to see where my Grandmother grew up. All my life she told me stories and it was magical to see the real life places behind them.

  2. I knew your list would be a good one! :)

You have clearly spent a lot of time thinking about traveling (I admire that!)… Even if it’s just imaginary for the time being- like I said on my post, it can’t come to a fruition without first being “imagined”- so I have no doubt that these will eventually start to become *real vacations :).

  3. I’ve been to Paris, that is an amazing city!! And I should have had Spain on my list I once worked with two Spanish women who convinced me it would be an amazing place to visit (and live).

  4. Spain has been on my brain lately too. Madrid has awesome museums – and is not too far from Granada (at least, compared to Barcelona). AND, if you hit up southern Spain, you might as well hop over the Straight and do Morocco while you are there! Tada! Two birds, one awesome vacation of a stone. Oh, and you better be taking me with you. :)

  5. I’m afraid to go to India! It’s quite complicated, long story short, I just think I would never be the same after it and I’m not sure I could handle it. :D
I bet everyone enjoyed making this list about favourite places, I did too!

    • I would love to go to Japan too. The design, the food. I just watched Lost in Translation and it reminded me that I wanted to go there.

  6. I’m back in the Listing game and trying to place catch up! I resisted the urge to do this one by listing 1) Anywhere and 2) Everywhere. I’ve added a Listography tag…what I need now is for somebody to start hounding me if I miss another week!

I’ve been to New York but not to the Met – I’d love to go there! I’d have to spend a week or so there, and one in the main branch of the NY Public Library as well.

    • Ha ha! I think the above list might be the best one of all and probably closer to my list. If someone tells me, “Free trip to Ames, Iowa!” I’m like “Let’s GO!”
